 | Broomall, PA - St. Joe's capped off a nearly perfect season with the only thing that they could: another PCRHL Championship. The Hawks came out fired up from the start, and decidedly took game 1. Game 2 saw the Penn Quakers as the aggressors, but an offensive outburst rejuvenated the Hawks as they were able to sweep the series and the Brennan Cup.
Game 1 of the series saw the Hawks dominate the first period on two Stan Tilton goals, followed by a Brendon O'Neill tally that put SJU up 3-0. Perry Clarkson would respond for the Quakers with 47 seconds left in the first period, but that would be most of the scoring Penn would see in the game. The second period was almost a carbon copy on the scoresheet for the Hawks with Tilton scoring twice, followed by an O'Neill goal. Quaker goalie Chris Hoogerheyde faced a barrage of shots that continued into the third period, as SJU's Sean Kennedy notched a pair, interrupted only by Penn's Even Brower's score. Mike Tilton would put a family cap on the scoresheet, burying the last goal of the game with an assist from Stan. Stan Tilton would finish with a 4 goal, 1 assist game.
Game 2 began as though the teams had switched positions. Eric Deutch and Bob Johnson lead the revved up Quakers buried three straight goals and it appeared as tho the Hawks had left their game on the floor in game 1. Then came the Dominic Conte show. Conte scored midway through the second period to draw within two goals, then buried two more to tie the game within a span of 31 seconds. This brought bedlam to the St. ... [Full Story]

 | CHAMPIONS!!!!!! Penn State victorious in Tier II May 03, 2009 - Broomall, PA - The Penn State Brandywine team notched their second straight Tier II championship, completing a 2-game sweep of the game Cabrini Cavaliers. Game 1 in the series was a tightly contested affair, with the teams trading the first five goals of the game back and forth through two periods. It was in the third period that the Lions' bench was apparent, as they notched four third period goals including three in a row that included the game winner. Cabrini would tack a goal on late in the game, but with little affect on the difference as PSU tallied last. Dave Moore had a 5-point game with four goals and an assist. |
 | TIER I Championship Preview April 30, 2009 -
Tier I Championship:
(1) St. Joseph's University vs. (2) University of Pennsylvania
Sunday 5/3 - Gametimes: 5pm, 7pm, 9pm (*if needed)
Regular Season:
St. Joe's has been one of the PCRHL's best for many seasons, capturing championship gold in 2006-2007. They look to add another Brennan Cup after a stellar, nearly perfect regular season. The Hawks boasted both the highest goals for, and lowest goals against average in the league by wide margins. Their only loss of the season came in a tight game against the surging Villanova Wildcats. Penn was second in both of those statistical categories, and their only 3 losses of the season came against St. |
 | TIER II Championship Preview April 30, 2009 - Tier II Championship:
(1) Penn State Brandywine vs. (2) Cabrini College
Sunday 5/3 - Gametimes: 6pm, 8pm, 10pm (*if needed)
Regular Season:
Both teams have made their way to the Tier II championship without a regulation loss, PSU going a perfect 15-0-0-0 in the regular season, and Cabrini going 13-0-1-1. Cabrini's only loss (in overtime) came in their game versus PSU (9-8). Neither team had a problem scoring goals with Cabrini having the slight regular season edge. PSU was right there as well, and was able to boast a stingier defense to boot.
Playoffs:
PSU won their first playoff series against Drexel 2 handily, with a 12-4 victory. Their second round series against Villanova 2 was a hotly contested affair, with the Nittany Lions just barely pulling out a 7-6 win.
Cabrini defeated West Chester 2 by a convincing 8-3 score, and then held off a very game Kutztown team by a significantly closer 8-6 score.
Players to watch:
PSU: Nick Largo (26) lead the Lions in scoring, while Steve Whitmore (61) had just as many assists, and a fare share of goals as well. PSU gets offense from a number of players, but the more their top scorers can be limited, the better chance the Cavs will have. Goaltender Matt Whitmore (39) had league leading numbers in net, but PSU's offense made Whitmore's job easier; he'll be tested more against the similarly powered Cavs.
Cabrini: Mike Holland (18) was the leading scoring in the league, and linemate Brian Bell (40) was right on his heels. Mike MacDonald (2) is both solid defensively as well as generating offense from the blue line. MacDonald will have his hands full keeping the Lions at bay, while still contributing to the Cavs offense.
